CAPTURING THE EXCITEMENT OF THE 2019 AZURE AWARDS

The Azure Awards have always been a highlight in the world of design and architecture, and I have been fortunate enough to photograph this incredible celebration multiple times over the years. The 2019 ceremony in particular stands out as a truly memorable evening, hosted at the Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto. Known for its striking industrial character and natural surroundings, the Brick Works provided the perfect setting for a night dedicated to innovation, creativity, and achievement.

Guests from across the design community gathered to recognize the best in international architecture, interiors, products, and concepts. The atmosphere was one of excitement and anticipation as designers, architects, and industry leaders came together to celebrate the outstanding talent being showcased. From the moment guests arrived, the venue was buzzing with energy. The mix of beautifully designed installations, elegant lighting, and modern décor transformed the space into a fitting stage for such a prestigious event.

Capturing this evening was an absolute privilege. I was able to document everything from candid interactions between colleagues to the proud moments of winners taking the stage to accept their awards. Each image told a story of dedication and creativity, and it was inspiring to see the way design connects people and shapes communities.

My connection to the Azure Awards extends beyond that one evening. I have had the opportunity to photograph multiple editions of the event, including the return of the awards in 2025 after they had moved online during the years of the pandemic. Witnessing the resilience of the design community and their eagerness to come back together in person was both powerful and moving.

The Azure Awards continue to be a celebration of excellence in design, and I feel grateful to play a small part in preserving the memories of these important milestones.
